What is therapy?
Therapy, also known as counselling, helps you to find answers to your issue and develop new ways of thinking and coping. Most of the time it is done through talking. I offer a confidential and judgement-free space for you to share what you’re struggling with.
Many people can struggle with just talking- especially children and young people. I tailor my approach to suit the individual. Using creative approaches can help people explore their issues in a new light. Some people may have tried counselling before, but find they learn new things about themselves and how to combat their issues when using creative arts. For children a creative approach can be especially useful as they process through imagination and play rather than direct conversation. See my blog for more
Sometimes a ‘practical’ approach can be useful- learning about how their brain can be ‘sabbotaging’ them with automatic thinking, as well as about how the fight or flight system in the brain impacts how the react to things. Sometimes this can be really empowering as it helps the person to accept themselves and make positive steps.
An intergrative therapist basically means someone who can apply different approaches and techniques to suit the individual. Whatever the approach, I will always remain confidential, non-judgemental and compassionate.
